We arrived in Salta late in the evening after having travelled all day from San Pedro de Atacama. I had pre-booked a hostel for all of us so when we arrived at the bus station all we had to do was hop in a couple of cabs to the hostel. The hostel was okay with a nice big barbecue area out the back of one half of the hostel. We were in the other half of the hostel on the other side of the street. The hostel staff were kind enough to order some pizzas for us as we didn't feel like going out so late at night after such a long day travelling. We had a couple of beers and played some pool whilst eating the pizza before heading to bed absolutely exhausted. The follow day we were up late in the morning and Maeve, Anthony, Sue and I headed for an Irish pub which was going to be showing the Spurs game. As the game kicked off around midday we had lunch in the pub as well as more than enough beers celebrating the win. After the game Linda and Maarten joined us as we tried to make plans for what to do over the next couple of days. They were the four of them were keen on hiring a car and driving around Sucre. Sue and I decided we didn't want to but went with them as they shopped around car hire places looking for a decent deal. In the end they all decided against it due to the excess due in case of an accident. Once we had finish looking for cars we caught the cable car up the mountain to have a walk around the top of the mountain and catch some views over the city. The top of the mountain was really nice with walkways to follow and great viewing platforms. We caught the cable car back down again and hopped in a cab back to the hostel. We used the time in the hostel to check the internet and to get ready to head back in to town. Once in town we followed a Lonely Planet recommendation to a steak restaurant for our first try of the famous Argentine steaks. The food was great and a few bottles of wine were consumed around the table in what was a really nice evening. After the dinner we headed back to the hostel where Anthony and I stayed up for another hour or so having another couple of beers and watching some South American boxing on TV.The following day we were up late again so our first task of the day was to try and find a restaurant that would cater to Sue's vegetarian pallet. This was a little more difficult than we anticipated and we walked quite a long way through the city until we found a music themed cafe which sold sandwiches and empanadas. After lunch we continued trekking through the city to the bus station which was on the other side of town. At the bus station we were trying to book a bus to take us to Mendoza the following day, we checked a few prices and eventually had to accept that the prices for buses in Argentina were going to be a lot more than we had paid anywhere else so far. Whilst at the bus station we bumped in to Maarten and Linda who had been to the grocery store to buy plenty of supplies for a BBQ feast that evening. Once our errands were out of the way we headed off to a museum in the centre of town which house the mummified remains of three children found on top of oneof the local mountains having been left their to die in sacrifice years ago. Also housed in the museum where many artefacts which gave clues in to the way of life of the indigenous people of Andean Argentina. After the museum we sat on the main square and had a drink and people watched for an hour before heading back to the hostel to fire up the BBQ. Maarten built an effective fire which gave us a nice even heat for grilling the giant steaks they had bought for next to nothing earlier in the day. We had all the essential salads etc to make the barbecue a success. The next morning Sue and I got up at a reasonable time so we could walk to the grocery store to buy some food for the night bus and to grab some things for lunch. We headed back to our hostel where we had our lunch and made a few phone calls home before having to head off to the bus station at about 3 o'clock for our 18hour bus ride to Mendoza.
