Spent the night in Awanui then headed for 90 miles beach for a paddle then headed on up to Cape Reinga. From the top of the country you could see the two oceans colliding, the pacific and tasman sea, the waves broke against each other as well as the shore. At Te Paki we headed toward 90 mile beach again and one of the many massive sand dunes. A maori chap was sleeping in his car on a bit of a track not far from some of the dunes and we got a board off him for a bit of sand boarding. Despite the exhausting climbs to the top of the dunes, the speed we got up was pretty impressive. Jo tried a bit of boarding on her knees and made a spectacular dismount halfway down, rolling around but bouncing back up as if it were intentional!. Saved best for last, got up alot of speed and flew through 'Hells gates' just missing two big rocks.
Stopped off at Paua for lunch which overlooked 'the worlds purest silica deposits'- big white sand dunes.
