Tuesday 22nd September. It poured down all last night which will please the locals who are desperate for rain but not good for the tourists but it had stopped when we set out this morning so it was just cold. It's an hour's train journey to the city. The journey in was all right but coming back the train was crowded all the way we think because the Melbourne show is on .We only got a seat because the young have to give up seats to the infirm and old so there are some advantages to being a senior and limping after a hard days sightseeing. Actually we only did one thing and that was the Melbourne Museums Pompeii exhibition. We took Karen with us and gave her a go at directing us as pedestrians but I am sad to say she failed miserably and turned us in the completely wrong direction which meant we walked a couple of ks before we locked her away in my bag and caught the free tourist tram which does a loop around the main attractions so we knew if we stayed on it long enough we would come to the museum. The place was heaving serves us right for coming in the school holidays and we had to queue for about 15 minutes and then wait 30 minutes for a time spot to go into the Pompeii hall but it was worth it especially as it is very unlikely that it will come to Aus. again and I doubt we will ever go to Pompeii. We gave Karen a face lift last night paying to get updated maps as well as the new maps we get free updates for the life of the device and it will translate foreign languages, take photos, convert currency and work as a pedestrian g.p.s. but after today's effort I wouldn't trust her with my money.
