A short hop from Asuncion finds us in Foz de Iguacu, Brazil. Having sorted out our immigration bits and pieces (nobody seemed overly bothered, and in fact a little put out at our insistence we get stamps) we landed at a hotel in town for the night.
After much deliberating we chose, on Monday, to go to the Argentine side of the falls. Iguazu falls lies on the border of Brazil and Argentina and is both higher than Niagara and wider than Victoria falls and consists of over 180 individual falls. Everyone we had spoken to said that the Argentine side was the best, so at 9am off we set.
The journey was fairly easy, consisting of 3 buses to get us over the border - where, again, the Brazilians seemed not to care who was coming or going, whilst the Argentians at least had a look at everyone - and to the National Park.
The park consists of several trails, boat rides and trains. We first took a walk around the lower circuit visiting some of the smaller falls and seeing all sorts of wildlife - monkeys, coatis, birds - before heading out to the main attraction - the guargantua del diablo - a vast torrent of water tumbling down over the cliffs.
Suffice it to say the experience was spectacular. The sheer volume of water, the speed at which it was tumbling and the beauty of it all absolutely took our breath away. We are on photo-rations (having lost the lead and therefore not being able to charge the camera) but we got a good few snaps that we will share with you when we get home.
After that it was a case of heading back to Foz for another bus - our last night bus on the journey, yay! - to Sao Paulo where we currently are waiting for a further bus to Paraty for a few days lounging in the sun - cannot wait!
