After we had recovered from our night our, we drove to Wanaka ready to ski or board at Treble Cone, but not before stopping in Cadrona for another little sleep. The following day we booked a snowboard lesson for the afternoon, hired some equipment and drove the Jucy van up the mountain to Treble Cone. Our lesson was a great success and we learnt the basics and even got the hang of using the button lift. I was expecting to fall over more, but didn't, We both really enjoyed snowboarding and stayed around after the lesson to practice some more. We headed back to Wanaka to hand in our borrowed equipment and then went to HQ bar overlooking Roys Bay.
Still on a high the next morning, we decided to hire the snowboard again to continue practicing what we had learnt the previous day. Only this time there was a lot of falling over and the weather was not good very windy and then a blizzard set in. So we treated ourselves to a hot chocolate and called it a day. When we got back down to Glendhu Bay where we were staying we decided to check out the paintballing. We were told that we could join a game at 4.30 and returned to find we were playing with a group of professional snowboarders from Switzerland who were training in New Zealand. Result! And I am not sure that the huge bruises we have sustained were worth it. In my head in the overalls and mask I looked like whatshername out of 'Flashdance', but am sure in reality I looked more like one half of the Chuckle Brothers. Then it was high time for a hot shower and an early night, and as we had swapped our DVDs with another Jucy van we had some new viewing.
We were rumbled in the van early the next morning courtesy of a huge earthquake in nearby Christchurch. My second earthquake of my trip. Fortunately Wanaka is 300km away and so not affected by the quake, although there were avalanche warnings in place up at Treble Cone (TC). That did not deter us and we spent our day skiing the steep slopes of TC. After our aching bodies, from our previous days of snowboarding and bungy jumping, could take no more we went back in to Wanaka to book some activities for the upcoming days then hit the town and stayed at a backpackers that night so that I could have a little drink.
