Mina and I arrived in Christchurch following a 4.15am start. We had not booked anything so had to make a quick decision on what we were doing and decided to book a Jucy campervan for our three and a half week tour of New Zealand. We were picked up from the airport ten minutes later and were on the road in our bright green mobile home in no time at all,. We took a quick tour of Christchurch, but nothing much took our fancy so we headed South and took in some of the scenic splendour on offer. And stopped for the night in Glenavy.
When we woke up we noticed that we were parked right near a river. And as Mina wanted to wash her hair we strolled down to the bank and attempted to wash in the freezing cold water. Then we hopped back in the van and drove in search of breakfast. We stopped in a place which ironically given the clientele in sight, called itself Youth Town. After filling up and stealing the jam selection from our table we drove to Oamaru. We went in search of the blue penguin colony and ended up with a blue light escort. I asked an on-duty policeman who was surfing the internet in the tourist information office if he knew where the penguins were as the guy from the office was on the phone and he ended up escorting us there, recommending other sights whilst in the south island and offering us a little crime prevention advice. From here it was on to 'Shag Point' (mostly for a giggle at the name), but also in search for seals and more penguins. Then it was on to Dunedin. We walked around the city, took some photos and then drove to the Otago peninsular along the Portobello road to spot more wildlife. We stopped the night at Harrington Point on the peninsula itself.
