Hello Again
We're now in Munich, Germany, seeing out week 7 of our trip. We're certainly managing to pick our places on this trip - We've had Monaco for the Grand Prix, Cannes for the film festival, Switzerland for the football, and as we turn up in Munich, it's the celebrations for their 850 year anniversary! The streets are full and there are people in traditional dress everywhere, dancing and drinking traditional beer at all hours. It's a scene we're really getting in to.....
Since our last blog we have probably hit the highlight of the trip so far, and one that will live with us both for a long time to come.Schilthorn is, after Jungfrau, the highest mountain peak in Europe and was also the set of a James Bond film back in the late sixties. The backdrops (not the film backdrops!) are stunning to say the least and you can catch them in our video blog section. We've come out really dark in the front of the glowing snow, but hey, you won't be looking at us anyway! It really puts any other views of mountains we've seen into perspective, so check out the photos on this site to get an idea of how truly amazing the scenery was there. We also went to Trummelbach Falls which is a set of 10 waterfalls set within the mountains that really catch the sun (we got some whilst we were there!) and create the most magnificent rainbow effects all the way through the caverns.
As mentioned in the last blogs, we only spent 48 hours in Austria due to our timeline. The lie of the land and the travel that we did lead us to believe that it's fairly in line with both the sights in Switzerland and Germany, and we'd both like to come back one day anyhow for the skiing.
Today finds us in Munich, enjoying the treats of the traditional brew houses, such as Hofbrau, in situ since 1589 and Paulaner, there since the relatively recent late 1800's.Due to the festivals we've been immersed in the carnival atmosphere, and we are now on the lookout for flowery dresses and lederhosen to take home. We're back on the road again for week 8 heading north, having hit 5000 miles in the car yesterday.
Hope all is well at home.
Love Darren and Jo
