Greetings from Krakow! My sincerest apologies for not posting since last Saturday. The app wasn't working. Luckily, all seems well. I'll recap each day as I am able.
Day two we spent exploring the sites of Berlin. We saw all three sections left of the Berlin Wall including the Eastside Gallery which the German government gives over to artists to paint on a theme. It was neat to explore. See the attached pictures. :). We saw the Fuhrerbunker where Hitler lived and spent his last hours. From there we went to the Topography of Terror Museum. It's an outdoor museum which shows the rise of the Nazis and Soviets encapsulating the last 80 years of German history. It's in the old Gestapo headquarters and is set against the Berlin Wall. We went to Potsdam and saw Cecelienhof and Sansoucci which are two palaces there. Cecelienhof Is where the Potsdam Conference convened. This conference decided what post war Europe would look like. The room where the agreements were signed looked the same as it did in 1945. Sansoucci belonged to Frederick the Great. The palace and its gardens were exquisite.
That night we went to Checkpoint Charlie to see what's left of the checkpoint. The Checkpoint Charlie museum was fun for the kids as they saw how people escaped from East Berlin and the exact implements they used to Do it. We then went to the TV tower in East Berlin to see the whole of Berlin from the top.
The next day we would go to the Czech Republic via Dresden. Stay tuned for the recap.
