Sunday we had breakfast bright and early in our homestay then got ready for another long bus ride to our next destination. We were going to the Rif Mountains to meet with a family who lives in the country. The bus ride was 4 hours and I was so happy when we finally got there and I was able to get out of the car and stretch my legs.Of course we had to walk up a mountain to get to the house that we were visiting. On the way there I slipped and stepped in some mud.Not too badly, but it still wasn't fun. When we got to the house we had cous cous with the family outside.A translator came and we were able to ask the family questions and they were able to ask us.The father was very focused on asking us about whether we wanted to get married and have children. There were a couple girls in the group that said they don't want to and he was completely baffled by them.He couldn't understand why they wouldn't want to be married and have a family because they would end up alone at the end of their lives. After talking with the family we had to walk back down the mountain of course and Mike told me to follow him so I wouldn't slip in mud this time.Well I didn't just slip in it, I sunk straight in and got stuck.Mike had to pull me out of the mud and I had to change into my flipflops when we got back to the bus.
We got back on the bus and started our journey to Chefchaouen. At least this trip only took about an hour.Once there, they took us to our hostel where we were able to get settled in quickly and then we were given some free time to walk around the Medina. There were tons of stalls with people selling jewelry, pottery, clothing, spices, etc.I was able to use my bargaining skills once again on some jewelry.I got a really nice necklace and some earrings.I also was able to bargain some sweaters down for Tommy, Andree, Mike and I.After a little while of bargaining and shopping we dropped our bags off and went to dinner with the group.Mike had meatballs in a red sauce and I had a chicken pastey. It was amazing!I need to look up the recipe so I can make it again. It's like chicken and vegetables in a pie crust kind of with cinnamon on the top.Which doesn't sound amazing but it was soooo good!
After dinner we went back to the hostel and up onto the roof to talk about everything we had learned on our trip and what we've gotten out of it.Things like that.It was really interesting to see the difference between what we had learned and what the gap year kids had gotten out of it.It was really obvious that they've never been in the real world and don't know what it's actually like.We stayed up there until pretty late and it was freezing! After a little while we finally went back to our rooms for the night.
