Day 74 - Koh Phangan
We arrived in Surat Thani at 7am and were on the ferry to the islands soon after. When we got there we got a truck to our hotel and went out for lunch. We went back for a sleep and made plans to meet the girls at 5. So we got a taxi to the full moon party beach where the girls are staying and walked around all the bars. It reminds us a bit of Koh Phi Phi from last time so we like it here! By the time we actually met the girls we had drank two buckets, so they were playing catch up. We went down and sat on the beach and, although it's 2 days before the full moon, the party had pretty much started. There were fire shows, fireworks, body painting, and tons of bucket stalls fighting for every customer which is hilarious! We were sitting on a park bench in the sand, at one point Amy and Hayley were sitting on it alone and Emily sat down on the same side as them, with no one on the other side, so the whole thing toppled and the five buckets on the table went over the top of them haha. We spent quite a lot of money so headed home quite early so we wouldn't spend any more.
Day 75 - Koh Phangan
Today Michael and I woke up quite early and just lazed around reading our books. I dozed off again in the afternoon and we were woken up by someone chapping the door. It was Emily and the girls, and they had hired a pick up truck! They had a guy from their hostel driving it, so we got in the back to go driving around the rest of the island. It started raining pretty heavy so it wasn't the most comfortable sitting in the back of a truck getting soaked! But the island is really beautiful, we even saw two elephants in the trees! They dropped us off so we could have showers and get ready and came to pick us up two hours later. We all had dinner in a fast food place near by before heading down to the party beach. Today was mums birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM) so I went to skype home for a while. We went to the girls dorm room and had some drinks in there for a while then headed down to the beach. It was the same as the night before only busier and a bit more mental. We got a taxi home at 2.30am when our money run out.
Day 76 - Koh Phangan
Today was the day of the full moon party! We slept late to make sure we were prepared for the night ahead. Michael and I spent the day in the pool for a bit and went to a really good French restaurant. We did what we usually do and just pick somewhere at random because almost everywhere has a similar menu, but this one was different and we will definitely be going back! We relaxed for the rest of the day before getting ready and getting a tuk tuk to the girls dorm. We got some take away food from a place next door and some beers from the 7/11 shop and joined everyone in the dorm. Someone had bought uv paints so we got busy painting each others faces. I was given a pink ninja turtle style mask and a Scotland flag on my leg. We all bought some stuff to make buckets, and had one each before we headed down to the beach. Tonight the beach was packed full of people, it was crazy! We found a spot on a big table and spent the night dancing on top. We had a really good night and got a taxi home sometime between 4 and 5, then we spent a good 30 minutes trying to get the paints off before going to sleep.
Day 77 - Koh Phangan
The morning after, we didn't get out of bed till 3pm! We felt guilty for ruining a whole day when we don't have many left, but it was worth it! We had some lunch in the hotel and went out to the beach. You can walk out really far at the beach here and it's still only knee deep. About 100m out there is another little sand island, so we walked out there with our books and lay down in the water. Its like paradise out there, we could have stayed all day. Unfortunately however, the stray dogs of Koh Phangan ruined that idea. The dogs also enjoy the sand island out in the sea, and today three of them were running around playing on it. They were generally ignoring the people, but three girls were sunbathing near by and the dogs were running over the top of them. We were watching and feeling sorry for them and then the dogs came our way. Michael the dog lover was happy to let them sniff about him, but they make me feel really uneasy, so I was up and ready to run away haha. One of the dogs that was sniffing Michael acted really weird, it sort of lunged for the back of his neck but then it just licked him. Michael wasn't worried, by I was convinced it was untrustworthy! So we got out of the water and back to the room with me feeling sick with fear. I've never been scared of dogs, even with all the strays in Asia because they generally ignore people, but the strays on the island are way too sociable and it terrifies me when they come near. After a while we decided to walk along the beach as the sun was going down. We stopped and sat on some rocks and were just having a wee chat when out of nowhere, about 10 stray dogs gathered beside us. One or two where growling and fighting at each other, and one or two where coming to check us out! The only way out was to walk trough the dogs, so Michael took the lead and I was practically hyperventilating haha. One of them walked right beside us the whole way past all the others and half way back to our room. At the time I thought it wanted to maul me but thinking back it probably was just friendly! Anyway, I can't wait to come home and see wee Jaffa and Sally to remind me what some nice wee dogs are like haha. I'm looking forward to leaving this island too and getting away from them all. Later at night we went back to the girls dorm to say goodbye as they were flying home early the next morning. We went out for dinner with them and some of the others from their dorm. We went to a pub that has comfy chairs and plays movies, so we ate our dinner and watched bad teacher. We said good bye to the girls and got a taxi home. I think between the hangover and feeling sorry for myself, and saying goodbye to the girls, I was feeling really homesick, so I went straight to bed and went to sleep.
