Hey all, hope you enjoyed the last extra long blog, and all extra photos.
Woke up early on Monday feeling great after my early night the day before. Had breakfast before chilling out by the pool. Stayed in the shade though as I was on the brink of going red after the fishing trip the day before. At about 11 most of us walked to the shops to get ready for the black moon party that night.
Lots of face paint, and hair spray. Then got a quick snack to keep me going til lunch. (more pork mao, they're super yummy!) was eager to get some wifi so sat in a cafe and had an iced tea and a massive bowl of 'cookies and cream' ice cream. Got a few more emails done for the Canadian job, just to let them know i had received the work contract, and had sent it back, then went on Facebook for a while to catch up.
Back to the hotel for a nap before the party, as it was going to be a late one. Bit of news for you - usually the moon parties keep going til sunrise. However during the songkran festival (new year) some parts of Bangkok had got out of hand, with some Thai people doing things that were really disrespectful in Thai culture. Because of this the whole of Thailand has had a 2 o'clock curfew put into place for 2 months! Really feel bad for the people coming for the bigger full or half moon parties.
After an hour nap I chilled out by the pool again, and then ordered some dinner at about half 7. Finally gave into the urge and ordered what in Thailand they call "the big Mac daddy"!
Massive burger with salad, bacon, egg, tomatoes, cucumber and cheese on it. Plus plenty of chips to go with it. Really delicious, especially with ketchup and sweet chili sauce.
After this we had 2 hrs to get ready, so everyone broke out the face paint and started painting each other in bright fluorescent colours. Was in desperate need of a haircut by now, so got a can of beer and bribed one of the coordinators (who's a really good friend now) to cut my hair.
Thought I'd do something stupid just for that night, so asked him to just cut the sides down short and leave me with a mohawk. So the sides of my hair is less than a centimeter long, with a stripe all the way down the middle being about 5 or 6. Sprayed it up with blue hairspray and was good to go.
When we met up to go everyone said that they really loved the new hair, that it suited my face much better and that I should keep it! So ditched the original plan of shaving the rest off the next day.
Quick taxi to the party where everyone was already dancing in the huge dance floor. The music was kind of trance/techno style, so was just repetitive beats instead of anything you could sing along too. Don't mind that sort of music, but did take a while (and a fair bit of alcohol) before I got up to dance.
Really cool inside - loads of uv lights and fluorescent paint, everything looked very funky. Really fun night that went far too quickly, and before long it was 2 o'clock and the music all got shut down. Sat around and chatted for a bit, had a really nice conversation with some french guy (in french!) for about half an hour before heading to get some after party food.
Got some really yummy pad Thai and and a few chicken kebabs before heading back to our hostel to continue the party! Made a massive bonfire on the beach and stayed up drinking till sunrise. Really amazing watching it come up over the island. Fell asleep laying in a hammock, but most were asleep on towels on the beach, everyone still covered in uv paint, and me with a floppy blue mohawk. After a half an hour nap we got up and had breakfast before going to bed!
Woke up at about 1 and headed straight to the pool. Met up with the others who were already there and everyone else slowly trickled in when they woke up. Very funny talking about all that had happened the night before.
A few of us booked a taxi to a local shopping spot. Finally found some more clothes that I like! Got some incredibly comfy fishermens pants, a Chang beer tshirt (my fave beer) and a really comfy handmade cotton koh Phangan tshirt. Severely made use of my bargaining skills and saved myself 150 baht in total (ok - only 3 pounds, but thats alot here)
Came back and (you guessed it) got in the pool. Relaxed for a few hours before trying my new clothes on and walking up to the shops.
Really felt like such a hippie walking up - I was wearing my new baggy fishermens pants, a baggy koh Phangan top, all my beads, very tanned, with a Mohawk (still can't get over how cool it is) and wasn't wearing any shoes. (left my flip flops at the last hostel and havnt replaced them yet, my feet are so tough now it's almost pointless)
Got a big 6 liter bottle of water (hopefully last time I have to buy bottled water) and some hair gel (I need it now) then walked back. Had a quick sort out of my bag and belongings before sitting down to write a bit of this blog!
Chatted before going out that evening to Haad Rin beach again. Ate at a really nice seafood restaurant set back from the beach a bit. Bit more upmarket then most places - all the food came out at once rather than over about half an hour. So was good to all eat together rather than have some people finished and bored and others bored and starving.
Back to our usual bar for a really good night out, so much fun. Watched more fire dancing and fire breathing etc. Another balloon game, then fire limbo! All for alcohol related prizes.
Finished up about 3, despite the music finishing an hour before. Then got the bumpy taxi ride home.
Up the next day early at half 7. Was heading out on an all day boat trip to angthong national marine park. Quick breakfast before getting on the boat and heading off to the islands.
Absolutely gorgeous views - crystal clear blue waters and white beaches. (hence it's a national marine park) 1st stop was a little bay inbetween 2 islands. Got given a snorkel each and jumped off the back of the boat.
Amazing seeing what happens underwater, saw loads of really colorful tropical fish, lots of coral and huge shells. Did have to be careful about the massive black sea urchins, and we did see a sea snake too. The guys on the boat kept throwing bread at us, and we would get swarmed by tiny tropical fish all trying to eat it, very funny.
Spent about an hour here, swimming around the bay and into the caves. Then got out and headed to the next spot - the emerald lagoon. Basically a huge lagoon in the middle of an island, which was a really intense green colour. Climbed up lots of hot steps and got some amazing views of the lagoon and surrounding island.
Quick trip to the next island where we stopped and had a massive lunch, loads of yummy Thai food. Some people went off kayaking, but I got the snorkel out again and swam around for an hour.
Our final stop off was a really tall island. Here we had the chance to climb up to the top for some amazing views of the whole park (see blog photo!) very hard walk/climb - 500m up on a really hot day even by Thai standards. But it was worth it for the views.
Left after this and headed back to koh Phangan, saw wild dolphins on the way back which was very cool. Arrived back at around 5, jumped in our taxi and headed back. Tried to have a quick nap before the night out but didn't really get to sleep.
Walked up to the end of the road for dinner. An interesting meal - basically the Thai version of a barbecue. You sit at the table with a bowl of hot coals in front of you. With a big pan that has a mound in the middle of it. You pour water in the bottom and boil all the noodles and veg you want, then grill the meat on the raised dome.
Afterwards we had coconut ice cream, which was so yummy i had 2!
Back to the hotel for 20 mins before the taxi got there. Off to Haad rin again for the night, again very fun! Played the balloon game for the 1st time and got down to the final 3. Myself and 2 of the girls from our group. Was feeling nice so let them win (they both got a free bucket, i got a free beer anyway)
Then arm wrestling which was very funny, especially when the girls got involved. Lots of dancing before the last game - fire limbo.
More dancing and partying before heading back at about half 2. Got to bed and slept like a log.
Woke up at about half 11 and got some 'chores' done. Repaired some of my clothes, tidied my bag up ready to leave tomorrow, checked my flight time and bought some things from the shops that I needed.
Stopped off in a little restaurant to have lunch and post this blog. Intending to lay by the pool this afternoon and tan, though may have to have a quick nap. Or I could just sleep by the pool. You get the idea?
Intending to go out tonight for our last night out (very sad!) then up tomorrow at 6 to check out and drive back to Bangkok. Arrive at about 11pm in bangkok, my flight is at 8pm the next day. So hopefully get some shopping and stuff done while in Bangkok.
Hope you all had fun over easter, and thank you for being so patient with the blogs while I've not had easily accessible wifi. Hopefully normal service from now on as i would have thought there is plenty of wifi in Australia.
All i can write for now,
Josh xx

Claire Shann Hi Josh Just read the latest blog - you have certainly packed a lot into the trip so far. I think we can conclude that you know how to party! I hope you are enjoying Australia and that you keep us up to date with what you are up to. Can you put a photo of your hair so I can see it. take care Claire xx
Claire Haworth Hope you all had a shower - especially you with "blue" hair before you all got into the pool! You're certainly "packing it all in" - o'h to have the energy & liver of an 18yr old! p.s. what happens to the hair cut when you've had a swim - do you carry hair gel around with you?!
Stephanie Oooooh- how did I miss this blog entry????? A blue mohawk???? GOT to have photographic evidence- P L E A S E!!!!!! You seem to love the sea life (watch out for those sea snakes- some can be a bit pesky!) so, if you get the opportunity, you might want to think about doing a PADI scuba diving qualification in Oz- the barrier reef is one of the most beautiful sites in the world. Sx PS You will be pleased to know that the liver is a regenerative organ (within reason of course)- even my liver has been given a clean bill of health!
