It wouldn't be very Australian of me not to go see a contact sport between Australia and the current country I' am living in, which if you didn't know already is Wales, the country that lives and breathes rugby union. So of course I had to go see Australia vs. Wales at Millennium stadium in the capital city of Wales; Cardiff. It is only a short hour train ride east of Swansea to get to Cardiff but still a long enough ride to have some warm up beers before the game. At 1100 hours in the morning Broc Mclean and myself boarded the national express train to Cardiff and cracked our first beers. After arriving at Cardiff central station Broc and I ventured over to the stadium to collect our tickets, predictable Broc and Jeremy though we got lost and ended up doing a big loop around the place looking for the pick up office. Wasn't too long though before we got the tickets and found ourselves in the pig pen of the "Prince of Wales" drinking ourselves silly with pints of Fosters talking s*** to old crazy welsh men, and standing out like dogs b******s with an Aussie flag around my neck like a cape and Broc with a gold Wallabies jersey on. After a few more pints and getting lost again we made it to our seats, set in comfortably and pulled our bottles of spirits out of underpants and began to enjoy the game. The game was fantastic especially in the second half when Australia came back with a good lead, The first half Wales had scored two penalty shots and held the score 6-0 but within the first five minutes of the second half we scored a penalty shot to put the score up to 6-3, then another three tries and three conversions. The score was sitting on 6-24 then Wales managed to bring it back with two more tries and two conversions with the last try being scored by the famous Welsh player Shane Williams who on the day was playing his last ever game. The try was fantastic I have to give the Welsh that. Shane ran in full speed nailed the ball to the ground with a specy front flip, quite impressive. But as good as it was it wasn't enough for them to win the game, the siren rang with a score of 18-24, I was a very happy boy.
Broc and I got pretty rowdy with every try and conversion that Australia made, mainly because we were two Australians full of piss, watching a sports game, I did get told to sit down a couple of times. As the game came to a close with 60,000 disappointed Welsh supporters and 100 chanting Aussies, we downed the last of our drinks and headed out to the pub to celebrate and drink some more. After spending a few hours in the pig pen in Walkabout we had had enough and jumped on the train back to Swansea, passed out and woke up as it was pulling into town.
What should have been a two minute walk to the pub took about twenty because Broc kept trying to sleep on every hand rail and bin on the way there but we finally made it and poured a lot of water and beer down each other's throats. Once again we got bored of the pub and headed to my work place; KON-TIKI!!! There we drank some very strong cocktails. So as it was Broc and I were extremely drunk, we had been drinking since eleven that morning and it was closing in on midnight. We had one more mission to do though, hang the Australian flag from the top of the Castle in the centre of town. Getting to the top of that castle is not easy especially when you have to swing yourself around and grab a ledge without falling. I managed to do this but did smack my face on the wall in the process. Getting down is whole different ball game though, I found that out when I slipped and fell about 10 feet got covered in mud and sprained my ankle (I'm in a bit of pain as write this now). The planting of the flag was successful though and it hangs proudly at the top of the castle for all the Welsh to see mwahahaha!
