Had the most AMAZINGLY CRAZY time in Laos....
So arrived at 2pm in Vangvian on Monday 1st Nov, and after making a few friends on our journey we all checked into Babylon guesthouse and settled down, and got ready to go out and hit the restaurants and bars. At 7pm on our way down the stairs to meet our friends Sarah decided to miss the last step, yelped out in pain, and claimed her foot was broken. The next few hours consisted of us hailing a tuktuk to take us to hospital, hot Irish guy carrying Sarah to the Tuktuk, arriving at Vangvian hospital, Sarah getting an X Ray, Sarah being told her foot was broken and that we had to go to Vangtian hospital which was about 3 hours away, Ben and I running back to re-pack our stuff in the hotel, and running back to the travel agents who had our passports ready to send off to get Vietnam visas, Ben and I running back to Vangvian hospital to collect the cripple and board the most OLD SCHOOL RICKETY SHABBY UNBELIEVABLE 'ambulance' you've ever seen, 2 and half hours later arriving at Vangtian hospital, begging the doctors (none of whom really spoke much English AT ALL) to plaster her foot so that she could just go back to England cos there was no way in HELL she was staying in one of the Laos hell-hole hospitals, Sarah being plastered in what looked like the set of a horror film, another ambulance giving us a lift literally across the road to check into a hotel, catching a few hours sleep, heading back to Vangtian hospital so Sarah could get a 'fit to fly' form, getting a lift to town with a health insurance/travel agent so Sarah could work out how to get back to London, Sarah being sorted out while Ben and I worked out how to get back to Vangvian, Ben and I reluctantly leaving Sarah who we were assured was going to be on a flight in a couple of hours back to Bangkok then on a flight back to London, Ben and I getting the 3 hour bus...AGAIN...back to Vangvian. So we arrived back in the evening on Tuesday, tired, stressed and in need of a strong drink, we found our friends we had made (5 guys + us :P), got some food and began working our way to a level of drunkness which we then pretty much stayed at for 3 whole days. We hit Q bar and then Bucket bar, drunk large volumes of whiskey and red bull, limboed under a firey pole, I fell over and got soaked in petrol, chatted and danced the night away. Next morning we FINALLY got to go tubing. Walked to town, hired a tube, got on a tuktuk and arrived at the river....it was IMMENSE. We got stuck in with a hair of the dog and hit our first slide which sent us flying into the cold river. Then boarded our river tubes and started floating down to the first busy bar - banging music, dancing, UV spray painting, head bands, chatting to TONS of people, floating down to next bar, jumping from dizzying heights into the river, drinking more whiskey than I ever would have imagined my body would hold, doing vile shots full of wasps and snakes and generally having a damn good time. Got back that evening, had a nap, then hit the bars again for another messy night. Met up with hot Irish guy and thanked him for carrying Sarah! Next day went tubing with all the crew from our hotel again, I got brave and did the BIGGEST SWING was utterly terrifying, sosososoooo high, but AMAZINGGGG, also did the hugest slide, mud volleyball, consumed stupid amounts of alcohol again, got back to the hotel and passed out, woke up at around 10pm, realised there was no way in hell we were gonna make it out again, so went to buy a baguette and went to bed. So we all checked out of our hotel on the thursday, and chilled eating a much deserved full english and watching friends before embarking on the most horrendous journey of our lives to Hanoi...31 HOURS on what I can only describe as hell on wheels, I have never been in such a small claustrophobic space for such a long period of time, other than maybe when I was in the womb. We all got assigned these lying down seats, and there were just people EVERYWHERE was un-real. Anyway after the longest and worst experience of my life we finally arrived here last night, checked into a hotel, and got some well deserved food and an early nights sleep. Hanoi here we are!!
