Today I went to Victoria Falls and trekked through the rainforest beside the falls. I started at the Devil falls and went the whole 2km to the bridge. Just incredible!
The immense power of the water cascading 70-110 metres down below was so strong the mist was thrown up nearly 200metres into the air before descending down on top of me.
The mist just kissing my body as I walk beside the rumbling water. The chirping birds singing in the distance, the leaves glittering 5 different shades of green through the sun and mist. Vines almost swallowing up the pathway, ferns and nettles taking up the lower ground. There's a hint of Spring air, I can't quite place what flower but almost a lavender smell. This is just beautiful!
Along the falls the mist is ever increasing as the falls gain in height. A third of the way in and it's getting too wet to even get my camera out but I'm not complaining it's nice just living in the moment without any distractions, the rushing water just utterly hypnotising. Towards the end we came across 2 little species of antelope, gorgeous little things who came within a few metres of me before retreating.
What a phenomenal site the falls are, no wonder they are a one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. That now makes 2 out of 7, just another 5 to go!
After drying out my shoes and clothes I spent the evening on the Zambezi river for a dinner cruise. It was beautiful and within 10 minutes of setting off I saw a couple of hippos. Their ears and tops of their head occasionally popping up to the surface. Sadly I didn't see any crocs but was a lovely evening to sail down the river. The sun bright red set behind some clouds lighting the very tops of them neon red. Birds flying over head and a couple of rainforest Buck grazing by the banks. I enjoyed a lovely meal with some beautiful music performed live by an African acapella band. Beautiful harmonies, not as good as Ladysmith Black Mambazo but still very good. Plus nothing is better than those African harmonies rattling through your hollow body and all the hairs standing to attention, engrossed by the clicks and calls.
After leaving the boat at nearly 8pm we headed home to change then went to a local backpackers/bar and continued the evening there before returning home gone 1 am. Ready to leave tomorrow at 7.30am or 8.30/9am in "Africa Time".
