7/13 Now I know why it's called a pub crawl...
I got up and had 2 bowls of Rice Krispies at the hostel. I hadn't slept well because of snoring man who slept in the bunk above me so I was tired and didn't get up until 9:30. I saw a free walking tour advertised at the front desk of the hostel and decided that would be a great way to see the rest of the city. I decided to go to the 11 am one so I could come back and relax before the evening's pub crawl.
I got dressed and reminded my roommate Jeff that the pub crawl started around 8. He told me his only real goal of the day was to go to the Guinness factory and that he would be around later.
I took off around 10:30 to meet the tour group at city hall. The girl at the desk said it was only a 15 min. walk. I start on my journey in the direction I thought I was supposed to go. Oops. In true Jessica form I had gone the wrong way. I pulled out the map and started to back track. By the time I got to Grafton street, it was already 11 and I still had about a 10 min. walk. I decided to forget about it and wander around Grafton St. (an awesome street with tons of shops!) and just catch the tour at 1.
I found some really cool shops with awesome clothes. I went to my favorite Euro shop "Top Shop" and found a couple of awesome deals! After an hour and a half, I headed to city hall to meet the tour group.
I was a little early and by the time I got to city hall and saw the tour guides there was only about 2 or 3 other people there. I thought "oh how sad. No one is going to go on this tour." then within 5 mins, the group grew to over 30 people! I guess people like free stuff as much as I do!
Our tour guide was Eileen. She is a college student who is extremely knowledgeable about Irish history. During our 3 hour walk, we went to Dublin Castle, Christ Church cathedral, Temple Bar, St. Stephen's green, Ha' Penny Bridge, and a number of other cool sights, including a site where Viking ruins were discovered.
On the tour I realized a guy and a girl in the group were staying at the same hostel as me. They were a brother and sister from Wisconsin (Ryan and Ashley) and I talked them into doing the pub crawl that night.
At the end of the tour we went with Eileen to a pub to buy our tickets for that night. I then headed to get another noodle box from my fave noodle bar and Ryan and Ashley grabbed some food at a pub. We agreed to meet in the hostel lobby around 7:30 to leave for the first pub together.
I got back, ate my noodles, showered, and got ready to go. The hostel had a free pasta dinner and Jeff and I decided to eat quick before we had to leave for the first pub. We had to wait about 15 mins. and then we scarfed our pasta and the four of us (Jeff, Ryan, Ashley and myself) took off for Temple Bar.
The first bar gave us a free beer that I didn't finish and passed off to my new amigos. The second bar offered a free shot with each drink. I decided to stick with vodka cran. The next bar had drinks for 3 euros... Sex on the beach for me! The next bar had a free shot with any drink. This was the best bar of all because it was crowded and loud and had live music and even had Guinness taps at the bar tables!
Then i started to feel those shots! The next pub was hot and sweaty but had a fun photo booth. The final place was a club that was too hot and crowded so the four of us decided to leave.
We somehow stumbled into a kebab place where the guys ordered food and I somehow ended up with a bowl of fries and a warm can of coke. Yum! We finally stumbled our way back to the hostel. I reheated my noodles from earlier in the day. Ashley made Ramen noodles. Jeff just sat in a chair and Ryan went to his room. Ashley and Ryan had to leave at 5 am so they went back and got packed, I assumed. Jeff and I were both going to take a shuttle that left at 8:30 so we decided it might be smart to pack, too, even though Jeff only had a backpack.
I went upstairs and decided I didn't feel like packing. I set my alarm for 8. The last thing I remember was looking at the clock on my phone and it saying 3:00.
