Puerto Escondido, Mexico
Helloooo!
Going to update this nbit by bit cos theres people waiting to use the computers...
So we have been away for a week now aggghh! Has flown by but have covered literally thousands of miles so feels like we have been away for a lot longer...will try and not bore you all to death but will give you a bit of a run down of what we have been up to. As I write this I am sitting in Puerto Escondido on the pacific coast sweating my head of, the humidity is ridiculous!!
It took us just over 12 hours to fly to Mexico City and theyre 6 hours behind GMT so our body clocks have been all over the place! We spent 4 days in the capital, not impressed at all, a very dirty place but had to be done!
The first thing that hit us about the city (apart from the pollution and open sewers filling the whole city with a distinct perfume!) is the amount of police here, hundreds of them everywhere with the biggest machine guns youve ever seen. A bit odd though cos on the surface they look menacing but then they are just fat little men who stand on street corners like in some Simpson episode slurping on their milkshakes and dunkin doughnuts, hilarious!
So we had a nice hostel, lovely people who picked us up from the airport and the hostel was in a nice treelined street who made us scrambled eggs every morning! First day there we walked a good 20 miles exploring the city, the zona rosa (turned out to be the gay zone) la reforma and the zocalo- the main square. The traffic is crazy everyone insisting on driving gigantic trucks as their family saloon! Theres street stalls everywhere selling everything from lingerie to quesedillas.
We both were pretty ill in the first few days, a combination of the heat, jet lag and eating dodgy (but delicious) street food...
On the second day we took the underground to a place called Chapultec, and the world famous anthropology museum. This mad russian guy Phillip, who claimed to be a fashion designer, befriended us and acted as our little guide for the day...
