Made it to Venice yesterday, or Venizia as the locals call it (I'm sticking with Venice).
At first we didn't realise how far out of Venice we had booked (about 20kms) until we headed into the city and walked through the little streets and watched people carry suitcases up and down the little bridges full of people so it was really a blessing that we weren't in the city.
Luckily we hired a car for our entire stay as the day we were headed into the city was the day the hotel had a sign at breakfast stating "trains on strike today". So rather than pay a fortune for a taxi we decided to drive and park the car and thank goodness we did it was so easy and stress free-ish.
Venice... beautiful Venice. Such an amazing city but I have to say a little on the stinky side. We made it to the main bridge over the Central Canal and I don't know if I had a tear in my eye because of the city's beauty or if it was something to do with the ever present "mouldy/sewery water" smell the city seemed to have.
We sat on the water and had fresh lasagne and gnocchi (I don't think I will be able to eat gnocchi in Australia again it was so freaking delicious) watched the boats go by and then proceeded to get lost about 30 times trying to find our way out again. I'm not going to bore you with the where's and what we saw, you will have to go yourself. Despite the smell, its totally worth it.
