One night in Phuket
First complaint: pretty disappointed with V Australia … only one complimentary alcoholic beverage! Are you kidding me?
Any way, arriving at Phuket airport is crazy. As soon as you step through the immigration gate, there are people ready to sell you stuff, hotel rooms, tours etc. When you get through that barrage it's onto the next where people want to know if you know where you are going and if they can take you there. To be honest, I was completely overwhelmed by this. Luckily there was a friendly Thai man waiting for us with our names on a card. From there it was smooth sailing
We got to our lovely 1 bed room apartment at the Sunset Beach Resort and headed straight for the pool. It was happy hour at the bar so we had a couple stubbies of Singha Beer at 50 Baht each. That's just under AU$2!! The pool closed at 7:00 pm so we travelled over to the hotel restaurant for dinner and a Mai Tai in a pineapple … siiiiiiick. Stu wanted to go out clubbing after dinner but we could hardly keep our eyes open so we decided to hit the hay.
In the morning we walked down to the restaurant for "American Breakfast." Not quite sure what the definition of "American Breakfast" is, and to be honest it didn't seem very American to me, I was expecting bacon, eggs, bagels and coffee. Almost every item of food on the buffet was sweet and sugary. Stu had had too much sugar so decided to go get some bacon. The bacon wasn't salty enough so he had to add more.
After breakfast we went for a walk which I am sure was the full length of Patong beach & back again. It was early in the morning so there were local men fishing and ladies collecting oysters from the rocks. We got around to the main beach and the banana lounges lined the beach for as far as the eye could see. Walking along the beach front, we were offered 30 min jet ski rides at 15,000 Baht and boat rides out to the famous "James Bond Island". Here is a recount of a conversation we had with a man selling boat tours:
"James Bond Island?"
"No, thanks."
"Tomorrow?"
"Yeah, maybe."
"OK, I give you my phone number…"
We kept walking and decided not to say "maybe" again.
It was a pretty warm day and for some reason we didn't wear our swimmers on the walk. So by the time we got back to the hotel we HAD to go for a swim in the pool. After we had refreshed ourselves, we checked out and here we are, again, at Phuket airport. Waiting for our flight, and for the next adventure to begin in Bangkok.
xoxo Jess & Stu
