All by myself
Ah yes Kaikoura, a sweet little town with an amazing backdrop of mountains directly behind (as long as there is no clouds covering them!) We had a lazy day once we arrived chilling out in the hostel's huge lounge. both Rach and I after our dinner of bangers and mash were spread out on a huge sofa each watching panorama and DNA (a rubbish but quite entertaining detective show from home!). Next morning we were up bright and early ready for dolphin action! And we got it! after watching the surprisingly entertaining safely video we were out on the ocean spotting our first dolphins. They estimate that there is 10,000 ducky dolphins off the Kaikoura coast I reckon I saw about 500 of them! Once we had located the swimming pods we all jumped of the boat and went for a swim. I wet myself when the first one swam right under me but I soon settled and even played a few games with them! Is you can catch their eye they will chase you around in circles! Inevitably the win and swim of with a smirk! We hopped back on the boat each time they the pod has passed and headed to another site. We got about 5 swims all in all. Each one was different. It was quite nice to just watch them as well as play. There was lots of babies with their mothers which was lovely too! Back on dry land we caught the bus to Christchurch which on first look reminded me a lot of Salisbury (there was even a town crier!!!) We sent the next day having a nose around before going for a swim (another 1km for me) and ending our week long detox with a few well deserved 'au revoir' drinks. I bid Rach goodbye the next morning and caught the bus south to Dunedin where I was met by Alex, tom and Penny their camper van! We headed to Baldwin street, the steepest street in the work before heading on land across a mountain pass where we bush camped for one last time! It was wicked to catch up with Alex and Tom. The next morning they dropped me off in Queenstown after stopping off in a few movie locations along the way (Lord of the Rings and Narnia!) Shattered I chilled out for the evening in Queenstown before heading out today for a bit of River surfing! Like white water rafting but on a boogee board instead! the rapids we rode were level 3 and 4 and huge from the water level rather than a kayak or raft has I've seen them previously! It was an adrenalin filled few hours! We stopped at one point and rode some river waves. I was in the half of the group who managed to catch it and loved it! What a rush! I even managed to pose for the camera too! Hehe! I'm not quite sure what I'll do with the rest of my time in Queenstown, I might do a wine tour and maybe a skydive but defiantly not a bungee!!! I've booked myself into a little boutique hotel for my last few days back on Christchurch before boarding my flight home! Not long now!!! Lots of love Nicole xxx
