5 countries in less than five days!
I'm in Prague already and it's only day four!
So my story so far........
We passed though France within an hour without even stopping! And camped for the first night in Belgium. I had a bit of trouble putting my tent up (in the dark) but got there in the end and we all headed to the pub (something that already seems to be happening quite a bit!) And were up early the next day to get to Germany, my tent had ice on it! The first few days have really just been travelling and getting used to our tents. We spent the second night "bush camping" where we just found a field in Germany and camped! Due to it being Easter Sunday no shops were open so we had an 'emergency tea' of rice, tuna and cheese. Again we were up early to get going to Prague.
So far a lot of the journey has been motorway but as we moved into East Germany the roads and landscapes started to change there were forests and valleys etc.
Crossing the Czech boarder was good fun! We could not cross at the first boarder because it was closed so we moved onto the next one but our truck was too heavy (it had a 3.5ton limit) so we made a move to turn around but managed to break a bit of their 'welcome to Czech' sign. They were not impressed and the police turned up straight away and started to ask questions! We were then made to stay at the boarder waiting for the traffic police to arrive. Basically what had happened was they had a structure covering the crossing like toll booths have and the limit sign said 4.5m, our truck is 4m so no problem except they had hung the sign below the 4.5m which is why we hit it. Anyway everything was resolved (within 2.5 hours) and as an apology for having the wrong sign and keeping us from lunch) they let us though the boarder (even though we weighed far too much) and we even had a police escort to the main road! Whilst all this was going on I went to the loo (which was in the police cell) and locked myself in! I'd missed being told not to shut the door! Ah well it was a comedy moment!
So we got to Prague a lot later than planned so enjoyed quick showers (mmm cold shower) and hit the town. We ate out at a steak house and enjoyed the beer which was 30K for half a litre (less than a pound!!!) so we had more than one!
Just spent today exploring Prague and being tourists for the first time!
I'll add some photos in a week or two when I have more to tell!
