Jenn's Trip through Asia
Hello everyone,
Greetings from Beijing, I've finally made it!! Seemed to take forever, I was seriously sleep-deprived even before I left (hello Ian, Mike) and there were a few potentially embarrassing moments during my far too long stop-over in Qatar. E.g. I accidentally ate part of a chicken bone (I shouldn't have eaten chicken in the first place - do you think I'm going to die of bird flu?) and almost said 'bless you' when this guy next to me started sneezing. Which might have got me killed, really.
Got to Beijing Monday at 3pm local time, it's now Tuesday 8.45am. Off to start sightseeing in a bit, the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Will also try to book a trip to the Great Wall for tomorrow or Thursday as well as a train ticket to Shanghai for Friday. With both the hostel I'm staying at (very nice, too nice, I'm not scared enough of the tap water and mosquitoes etc.) should be able to help, but I still have to locate staff who speak English as well as most people I've spoken to in the street. Am very impressed actually, most of the signposting is in English as well, so far it's been relatively easy to get around. Wish me luck that I don't have to go to the station to book the train tickets, which apparently is a nightmare.
Hope you're all well,
loads of love
