Another cargo boat, another night of no sleep and another night of non stop travel. I had never been so glad to see 5am. We switched the boat for a bus and were well on our way to crossing the border in to Malaysia.
Tired and apparantly an hour in front, we found a lovely hostel and headed straight out for food. It was hard to get a first impression of Malaysia as it was dark and hadn't stopped raining but the people seemed friendly. After struggling to get to grips with a map of the area we were pointed 10mins down the road to an open air night food market which was apparantly the place to be. The place was swarming with locals and tourists alike, a band happily sung away on a huge stage towards the back of the market and there was stall after stall of freshly cooked meat, fish, vegetables, curry, sushi, soups...anything and everything.
The next morning we set off on a sightseeing tour of the city, fingers and toes crossed that the rain would hold off for long enough. First stop...The Chocolate Boutique, a museum about chocolate! As usual we ate far too much, sampling all we could get our hands on until we were just about asked to leave!! After making a quick exit we then visited St. George's Church, Esplanade, Fort Cornwalls, Queen Victoria Clock Tower, Penang Art Gallery, the State Museum, Little India and finally the Teochen Temple. A busy day indeed and all before the heavens opened. Again.
Our final evening in George Town was mainly spent dodging the rain but not before food and drinks at the open air food market. With our bus booked for 9:30am there was only one thing left to do before we departed george Town...pack!!
