THE NIGHT WE STAY NHI
DAY 49: Halong Bay to Hoi An via Hanoi
Today was an early start as we had a lot to pack in before we went back to the harbour, so after another hearty breakfast at 7am we set sail for Sung Sot Cave. This is the biggest series of caves in Halong Bay and the biggest one was huge. It would make an awesome nightclub or Batcave.
After an hour of 'oohing' and 'ahhhing' at stalagmites, stalactites and a rock shaped like an erect penis lit up like E.T.'s finger, we boarded our boat for a slow sail back through the bay past hundreds of karsts where we anchored up just outside the harbour for lunch - at 10.45!
The one thing I can say about Halong Bay is that if you get chance to go, make sure you do a junk boat trip and do at least two nights and three days, as we really wish we had more time. It was a really unique place to visit and another massive tick off the bucket list.
We then spent another three and a half hours on the bus back to Hanoi where, after we collected our bags, we had a cup of tea in the tranquil Green Tangerine (again!). We were then met by our taxi driver to take us to the airport for our flight to Danang. Whilst at the airport I had to say goodbye to my trusty straw hat - it just didn't have the legs to go the distance.
After a half hour taxi ride to Hoi An from Danang airport, we were dropped off and had the warmest of welcomes from our hosts at Nhi Nhi Hotel. It was like they were great friends we hadn't seen for years. They had a hot cup of tea waiting for us before we checked in and went to bed.
