Whilst in Kanchanaburi we've learnt lots about the Thailand-Burma railway that was built by POWs ( mainly Brits, aussies, dutch and a few Americans) and local people in 1942. We visited the Hellfire pass, where the men had to cut through a deep rock using really rudimentary tools, and read all about their lives in the POW camp. Hello from Kanchanaburi north west of Bangkok. We arrived via a bus from the Kho San Road ( thank goodness to get out of there) and met Richard and Kath from York on the way. They are doing a month's tour of Thailand. Having teamed up with them to find a place to stay here we joined them at a tiger sanctuary run by Buddhist monks. Hey everyone, we're here in Bangkok and slowly getting to used to how mad it is. Everyone here wears yellow t-shirts and apparently that is becuase it was the king's 60th birthday in december and that being on Monday which everyone knows is a yellow day, means that they all wore yellow t-shirts to celebrate... and they are still wearing them, even when it's not monday. Sometimes you see a whole bus go past with everyone in yellow. (shoulda been Green)...
