As can be seen from the pictures, the drinking continued, as did the all important sun bathing. We went to the three main Islands of Samui, Ko Tao and Ko Phangan and rather than bore you with all the drunken stories, will do a little summary for you...
Samui
Stayed in Lamai and then went onto Chaweng where we embraced monkeys, the tourist lifestyle and Green Mango club. Also went to our first 'moon' party, the Black Moon. So maybe your thinking dancing on the beach in the heat. No such luck. It decided to rain so the beautifully straightened hair was destroyed, instead we went for the flick-up-hair and smudged makeup look. Didn't stop the men though and we suppose a 20 year old footballer and a stalker Irish man weren't that bad for two scabby backpackers. Kept safety at the top of our list and embraced the journey home on the back of random Thai mens mopeds...such a fun method of transport! Generally had alot of drunk nights out where we met some great people, especially Liam and Jemma who we brought down to our levels of scabbiness by smuggling vodka into the club.
It would have been rude not to embrace the shops in Samui, so we each bought a small cow in the form of bags. After much bartering with the guy still not budging on price the spolit brats in us came out with Denise throwing herslef on the floor and jenna pretending to cry, when we promtly asked to leave, opps! Never mind, got them for cheaper down the road anyway!
Did take time to go and see Big Buddha beach which to be honest was a little boring, still an amazing view from up top.
Ko Tao
A divers dream island with loads of the top spots. We dived the South West Pinnacles and White Rock. We didn't see any amazing/new marine life but the coral was out of this world and the number of skools of fish was just breathtaking. Other than this nothing wow to report, just a very chilled out island. We did meet two great Sweedish lads, Chris and Mike who kept us amused and came with us to Ko Phangan. However, they did upset us by telling us that Sweedish poeple celebrate Christmas on 24th, whats that about?!
Ko Phangan
We checked into Paradise bungalows in Haad Rin completly unaware that this is where the 'Full Moon' started so everynight the room shook witht the music coming from the beach. We therefore had no choice but to join in the action. We met two guys, Andy and Dan (who has since become our travel buddy for South East asia, an excellent bag carrier and drink fetcher...only kidding Dan, we love you really!) We all went to the Half Moon Party in the jungle where the Sweedish lads learnt how to drink English style. Despite the trance music we made it until sunrise (buckets make some music far more bareable). Everynight was pretty much the same, drinking and dancing on the beach in either Cactus or Drop in bar. Sadly Sweedish lads had to go but we still had Dan and Andy. The Full Moon Party soon approached where Haad Rin seemed to triple in size and trance bars sprung up from everywhere along with florescent stalls. We bumped into people we had met in Byron Bay in Oz (how bizarre!) and partied the night away, breaking at 4.30 for burger and burger sauce and half moon cake..fatties! Couldn't really get back on it after, the lack of drugs in us put us on a completly different level to other people so called it a night about 6 (pretty hardcore for us!) Wicked night, nothing like we've done before. We woke up the next morning with hangovers from hell and and random tatoos over usds and paint on our clothes. Nice.
We were quite active in Phangan where we did go on a boat trip around the Island where we got to see the nice side, visit a waterfall and go snorkelling. The waterfall wasn't anything amazing but the guide decided to take us through a black hole where you had to climb over rocks in the pitch black. Bit scary but good fun. He also took us to a ft wide 'plung pool', complete with water pouring on your head, who need spas when you have Thai waterfalls?!
Phangan was also where our amazing cooking talents were fully explored, well Jenna imporved on her top 5 in the country status, Denise learnt how to step into kitchen and turn a hob on for the first time. Nevertheless, Denise took delight when Jenna was told by the cook to cut her food like Denise... some people are just born naturals! :0) It was so much fun (despite the horrific hangovers). We got to chop away, learn about the different ingredients and the best part, eat it all! Well, even we couldn't manage enough food for 8 people so we recruited Dan and Andy (who didn't get food poisoning) and they repayed the favour the day after with the best Spring Rolls (we are obviously still the best though!)
The Gulf Coast Islands rocked but after a month of solid drinking and beaches a city was needed so up to Bangkok we trot.
