We are now in a very different part of the country - our first seaside and the view from our hotel overlooks the beach and islands.
Our first afternoon here was spent wandering around Nha Trang from the beach to the pool, while we relaxed ahead of a busy schedule the next day! That night we found a great little spot called guava, it was a really chilled out bar with waitress service so we only had to move when we needed to pee...lovely! Needless to say we had to sample a few cocktails, at 3quid a round it would only have been rude not to! We slept very well indeed that night!
The next morning we had arranged a tour of Nha Trang's sites, there aren't too many so it didn't take too long at all! When our guide turned up he looked like a typical beach bum, only he was about 70. He had board shorts, a big baggy t-shirt, really long hair and didn't speak a word of English! A great guide indeed! He basically stopped at places and pointed in the direction we had to go!
Our first stop was the museum of oceanography where we walked around taking photos of all the marine life and trying to find Nemo, which proved quite difficult, as there aren't really such things as information signs in this neck of the woods! It was quite interesting but also quite disgusting in some bits, especially when we made our way to the room that was just rows of dead fish in jars!
Next was Nha Trang cathedral. What a lovely building! It's still very odd seeing Vietnamese people crossing themselves and old Mary was lit up in neon lights once more!
Then it was onto Lon Song pagoda and the Big Buddha. To be honest we didn't see much of the pagoda, we were too interested in the Big Buddha! It's huge! A massive big white thing that the monks live inside and everything, they were sleeping when we got there though (how lazy!) so we couldn't go inside. We saw some very strange graves too; well they weren't so much graves but walls with little plaques for people who had been cremated. It's a bit odd, they get a patch with grave stone included when they're born and when they die the rest gets filled in. A little bit too well prepared we thought!
Next were the Cham Towers of Po Nagar, they were pretty amazing, all made out of red stone and the marking carved into them. Each one had a temple inside and the view from the top of the hill they were on was amazing. We walked up a lot of steps yesterday! 152 of them up to the Buddha and more to these. It was a good job they were nice!
Then came a promenade type thingy, it had something to do with a giant and a fisherman but we can't honestly remember much more about it! We just clambered over some rocks and took a few photos of fishermen in their boats with nice little mountains and islands in the background. Very pretty.
Our last stop was the market; it was very interesting to see a traditional market. It was huge though. Like a maze in fact!
After the activities of the day we headed for food in a place called 'good morning Vietnam'. Yes really, that's what it was called! It was an Italian; a wee break from Vietnamese food was required! Then we headed for some cocktails at a bar called Crazy Kim's, which donates a lot of its profits to help stop paedophilia in the city. The cocktails were huge and we even found time to embarrass ourselves playing pool, as we got progressively worse as the night went on and the cues stuck to our fingers with the heat!
Today was the hardest day of all; we got up this morning, got a sun lounger at the front of the beach and cooked for a few hours. It was hard work all that turning over! After that we went for a massive fry up in guava and a little lie down on their really comfy sofa before heading to La Louisiana for a milk shake and some more sun.
Tonight we're heading off to our next stop. Our bus leaves at seven o'clock for a ten-hour journey to Hoi An. It's not actually all that far but the road conditions are pretty awful - one journey is 140km and takes 5 hours!
