Hellooo all!!
Finally managed to get ourselves on a computer to update you all on our exploits...Welll...today you join us on Inca Trail eve, tomorrow we embark on our 4 day trip to Machu Pichu.
Well the last week has been relatively uneventful in comparison to recent weeks. We started off with a massive night out last Saturday in Arequipa at a cool complex called Casona Forum with our Norwegian friends from Brazil. Wicked night out, loads of different themed bars, guitar music (such a great break from the reggaeton rubbish)! Anyway the night basically knocked us out for a few days and we were both feeling less than peachy well into mid-week!
However we still had to jump on an overnight bus and go and see the Nazca Lines. It was good to see them but perhaps not as exciting as they could have been. It was good to learn about Maria Reichs though, the crazy German who swept the lines every day to maintain them for 15 years when everyone thought she was mental.
Then on to a little desert oasis town called Huacachina with huge sand dunes. Near Nazca they had the tallest sand dune in the world, it was over 2000m high!! It looked so strange having a big yellow mountain among all the brown ones.
So after chilling by the pool for a while in Huacachina we pressed on to Lima. Everyone had given poor Lima a bad write up, so we werent expecting much. We stayed in the really pretty district of Miraflores and were pleasantly surprised! So in our hunt for culture in Perus vast capital city...we went to the cinema and had KFC for dinner. Amazing!
Anyway one night in Lima was plenty for us and we flew to Cusco, the land of the Inca ruins. We have been here for 5 days now and it is soo nice to finally chill out and stay in one place for longer than a few nights. Cusco is so pretty, really nice buildings and so much history. Today I dragged Brad horseriding round some ruins. It was so beautiful to be so high in the Andes and the scenary was just amazing. Brad loved it, I was having trouble controlling my horse!! Lots of fun, although we may be walking the Inca Trail like John Wayne now.
So just a quicky today to whet your apetite for our Inca Trail review later in the week. In the meantime think of us treking miles and miles at altitude in the pouring rain (and not being able to wash our hair for 3 days, I am devastated!)
Love to all and keep messaging, it is amazing to hear from everyone!!
