Hello!
So we got here safely, and the flight was ok. It was made better by the great company I had, Tara fell asleep for most of the flight! Nice.
Montreal is a cool city, it's a bit chilly, but the sun has been shining and the leaves are turning and it makes everything look beautiful. It doesn't feel like we are in Canada, there is such a European feel. Mainly due to everyone being bilingual. If you overhear a conversation people switch between English and French with ease. make evesdropping really dfficult! The local Kingdom hall has an English, a French and a Chinese congregation. There are some cool buildings and lots to see. We climbed Mont Royal in the centre of the city, bit of a hike, but the views from the top were stunning. Interestingly Montreal gets its name from Mont Royal, as Mont Royal is Montreal en Francis... or maybe i just find that interesting. Ha!
The shops are really cool, but we're going to save our money for when we're in the states as things are cheaper there. We went to a meeting on Sunday and the congregation were really nice and hospitable. We got piicked up after the meeting and went to a football (american) game with a few from the hall. Was good fun, we mostly ran around not knowing what was going on.
The people we are staying with have been really hospitable and have looked after us. Told us all the good places to visit and good places to eat! Poutin (chips gravy and cheese) originates here, so had some of that and its goooood.
Funniest moment so far would be when Tara got served by the Mad Mac Makeup Man. This crazy camp guy was serving Tara at the makeup counter and trying on some foundation. He was pretty fat and bold and walked like he had curviture of the spine throwing out loads of attitude! When she said she didn't like it he said in the campest voice... "well first of all we need to moisturise her face. It's so dry that NOTHING is going to look good." I swear he dressed drag at weekends, everytime he applied makeup on Tara, his eyes would almost pop out his head and go slightly cross eyed, he thought he was monet. I tryed standing behind him and making Tars laugh, but got the giggles and had to run. He kept saying.... "her skin is only going to get lighter" you might have had to be there, but i'm still cracking up just writting it down.
We catch a 7 hour coach journey tomorrow... hopefully Tara will stay awake for this one... although i doubt it!
Tune in next time!
Jem (and Tara)
