Sun was up and so was surf, we donned our sexy wetsuits and hit the waves. Thank goodness they have surfboards the size of tables or Bridgey would never have stood, Jos stood first time-don't you hate her! It was great fun, wish we were hanging around longer to grab some boards and hit the waves again and again, but Fraser island called.rnOur intial doubts about how much fun Fraser Island would be, it was starting to sound like a school trip, were soon altered as soon as we stepped, well drove in our 4 by 4 on to the beautiful island surrounded by lush forest, sparkling beavhes and crystal waters- it was heaven! The ferry ride itself was great we caught up with the guys we climbed Mt Warning with and got to see dolphins play alongside the boat. It's a shame you can't swim in the water due to the Stingers, but we still had chance to put on our bikins and go for a swim in Lake Mackenzie. The water was beautiful but the temperature not so-goosebumps upon goosebumps but we braved it and boy were we glad we did. Driving along the beach in the 4 by 4 was brilliant fun especially when we had to hop out and dig ourselves out, girls proving once again to be more useful than guys as they stood by and took pictures! The island is, along with the beautiful scenery, renowned for it's deadly Dingo's, which we had a face to face encounter with much to the Swiss guys amusement, thank goodness we had watched the dingo video-highly educational (sarcasm at it's best). The whole trip proved to be one event after another starting with hitting the beach at high tide therefore missing where we were supposed to be camping, making a delicious roast dfinner by moonlight, note the key to all roast dinners is washing up liquid instead of oil when cooking meat- the guys loved it, they even said it was better than their mums cooking, that's what happens when you get vegetarians to cook for you, plus if they do insist in putting them both in similar bottles! The next day we drove upto Indian Heads where we saw Whales, Sting ray and Eagles (fish Eagles- everything is a fish eagle to Bridgey). We then headed to Champagne Pools which are beautiful saltwater pools, although alittle touristy for our liking. After 11 of us sharing a tub of custard, with spoons and eager bellies at the ready, on the beach we decided to find a camp spot alittle earlier. Nights on the island were cold but the goon (the cheapiest wine/concoction of all things nasty that money can buy) and game of catch the bottle kept us a little warmer. Early rise for a walk, and we mean walk (we thought we had to walk from our camp to Lake Wabby or Lake Wasabi as Jo kept calling it, rather than drive there and then walk alittle way) to Lake Wabby and the beautiful white sand dunes that surrounded it. Bridge and Jo decided to indulge in a childhood favourite, rolling down the hill, Bree our Canadian friend didn't take much pursuading either. Very dissy and feeling slightly sick we then continued our walk up over the dunes, taking in the fantastic scenery, it really put everything into perspective, with us looking like mere dots on the face of the sanddunes. After a mad dash back to the Ferry with us all holding our breath worried we wouldn't make it back in time and handing over the keys with the four by four intact we could finally relax. We ended the weekend with a group meal at an irish pub back in Hervey Bay. Fraser Island was beautiful and the fun times we had with our group of lovely new friends made it all the more special.
