Around the World Forever
Paid to Play Episode 12: The one where the author visits the world's second most populous city on the planet.
With around 22 million residents, Mexico City actually takes a distant second place to the city that holds the number one spot as the world's most populous; Tokyo (35 million or something absurd like that). It´s a fast paced mess of traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, that keeps you continuously on your toes wondering when that dangerous curve ball is going to suddenly veer off line and hit you at top speed taking you out for good... but it never happens. The ordered chaos seems to follow a pattern that you somehow can never figure out yet simultaneously meld into by becoming part of the chaos yourself. And that's what makes this city so enticing to roam freely around. From the taxi drivers that seem to want to rip you off, to the electric buses you can't hear approaching (almost got killed by one of those the first day) to the the zillion police on patrol in the city center. This place fascinates. There are a million interesting statistics I could list here but I think for this post, I will just limit it to the few photos I have of the area near the zocalo, or main plaza.
