Jeff Robson's Travels
- Set my phone's alarm to 5.30am using the "Bedtime" function as that provides a much nicer way to wake up. But I forgot that this doesn't work on the weekends so ended up waking up just after 6.00am. It didn't really matter however as I had plenty of time anyway.
- Packed everything up, shaved the "marmot" off my face after one final photo sent to Sherry.
- Took the hotel car to the airport. Total ripoff but I don't have time to mess about this morning.
- The Indian airports are a bit strange in that they only let you into the building if you have a valid boarding pass. This caused a problem in Dehradun as I couldn't bring up my booking on my phone as the signal was so weak. I ended up having to go to the airline's counter to get them to print something I could then take to show the security guard to prove I was actually booked to fly that day.
- A similar thing happened this morning however the guard I saw seemed to be happy with what he could see in Tripit, even though this didn't have my name (the critical thing missing at Dehradun).
- No queues inside so I checked in quickly & went through security. Another Indian peculiarity (at this airport only) is that they wanted everyone to take out every single thing that had anything to do with electronic equipment: laptop, mobile, camera, cords & cables, chargers, batteries ... everything!
- They all use the same scanning technology so I don't understand how the rules change so much from one airport to the other but anyway. I suggested to them that they update their sign to let everyone know that this is what they need to do - otherwise, they'll have to scan virtually everyone's bag twice. The guard said I should put in a suggestion form at their desk. Thanks!
- I was wearing my VoF t-shirt and the lady next to me asked how long ago I'd done the trek as she'd also done it a couple of years ago.
- The flight home was pretty uneventful. Fortunately, I had 2 spare seats next to me again so took 2 sleeping tablets & lay down for the majority of the flight to try & get myself back onto the Perth timezone.
