Jeff Robson's Travels
- Had a bit of a sleep-in until 7.00am today as I think we've earned it!
- Breakfast, clean up then packed our bags, said our goodbyes & started the 10 hour drive back down the mountain.
- The temperature up in the mountains was a little cool so it was good to have a jacket on.
- This quickly turned into a hot, humid furnace as we descended to lower altitudes (no air con of course)! Everyone felt so hot & sweaty! Urgh ... it was so disgusting! Especially on top of not having had a shower for the last 6 days!
- On the way up, I couldn't stop looking out the window in amazement at all the beautiful mountains. On the way down however, I couldn't stop thinking "When will these mountains end!" As they seemed to go on forever!
- I was the last person yo board the bus as I wanted to say goodbye to some of the others who were traveling separately. When I got on, the only seat left was next to Manisha who had had a cold for the past few days. After 10 hours of sitting next to her coughing & sneezing, I also picked up the cold! Not her fault of course as she was trying not to infect me but there's not much she could do.
- The driver was also driving like a madman! Even the Indians thought he was taking crazy risks: driving the bus, talking on his mobile, with his elbow when there are continuous sharp bends, constant oncoming traffic & many parts of the road that had been washed away (with steep drops of a few hundred metres!).
- Just focus on that hot shower, Jeff!
- We stopped for a late lunch at the same place we had breakfast on the way up: a little cafe on the banks of the Ganga river.
- Dropped off a few people in Rishikesh, then continued on to Haridwar.
- Very glad to finally make it to the train station in Haridwar then check-in to the room.
- Finally able to take that hot shower I'd been dreaming of for the last 10 hours! Words cannot begin to describe how good that was!
- Tried to get my mobile phones to charge & for some reason, they wouldn't charge from the power source, even though this was working perfectly fine just a week or so ago. Battery power packs were fine, just not directly from the wall. Weird! Decided to leave it until after dinner as I was able to borrow a power pack.
- Rested for a while then had dinner with Angitha plus another couple from our trek. The guy used to be a state champion at weight lifting & his record was 175kg for the snatch & grab! For comparison, I can only do about 60-80!
- The lights went off 2-3 times during dinner so maybe they're having some difficulties with their power supply which is affecting my phones.
- We were all fading fast so went to bed, completely exhausted from our day's drive.
- Came back, plugged the phones in and voila, they both work perfectly again! Weird.
