Mendoza
While Mendoza wasn't necessarily our first choice of destination in Argentina, we were able to get a ticket on a bus there from Santiago the following day so we jumped at the chance.
A six hour bus journey across the Andes turned into a ten hour journey as the bus wound its way slowly through an amazing number roadworks across the mountains. It was pretty picturesque though and, to be fair, we were moving away from the earthquake zone which was a definite relief.
Mendoza is well known for its location in the heart of the Argentinean wine region and we wasted no time the next day getting tucked into some rather tasty local Malbec.
While a pretty place to wander round, there isn't really a lot to do in Mendoza so we used the time to recover from the 'excitement' of the last few days while enjoying good wine and food.
Next stop Rio de Janiero, Brazil...
