Today we had to bid a fond farewell to our new friends and set off for new adventures. We arrived at Rome's main train station to find that our train had been canceled and we were forced to wait inside the station until the next one came a couple hours later. We passed the time playing Rummy on the ground until it arrived and we were finally on our way. Four hours later, we arrived in Florence! We caught a bus right from the station that took us up a winding road to a hill overlooking the city. Our campsite was right next to Piazza Michelangelo which has the best views of Florence and we instantly fell in love with the city. After checking in and dropping off our stuff at the tent, we went to the restaurant at the campsite and ordered pizzas and a jug of sangria. We munched and sipped and looked out at the beautiful view, completely content with the world. When we were finished, we grabbed a few beers and headed over to the Piazza Michelangelo and witnessed one of the most amazing sunsets I've ever seen. What an amazing first day to start of our stay in Florence! Tomorrow we're going to head down the hill to explore the city itself and if it can live up to our first impressions, it might just be one of our favorite cities yet!
