So After an 11 hour overnight, greyhoud bus journey, I finally arrive in Airlie beach where I meet back up with Carlie (the girl from Florida that I met whilst snorkeling in Cairns.) We knew that we had to take our own alcohol for the three days/two nights sailing trip so being extra prepared we bought three boxs of Goon!! For those of you who dont know what Goon is, its a sort of cheap boxed wine, except it doesn't contain any grapes and "may contain" fish eggs!!
So we exvetually board the buget party boat named " Habibi!" The staff go through the boat rules, first one being, everyone must speak English or else they have to eat a spoon full of vegimite!! Yum! The next being that nobody is allowed to say the word "mine" and if they do they have to do ten pressups!! HAHA!!
Shortly after we started sailing (all though we didn't do as much sailing as we all hoped, it made up for it with the group of people we were with!!) The sea was this amazing bluey green colour and the sun was beating down hard! The feeling of being on a sailing boat, with nothing but the sea and the sun all around you and the wind in your hair, was just so invigorating!! It was definitely a feeling I could get used to!! The goon was now cracked open!!
That evening we played a few drinking games, to helped the group bond. But to be fair we didn't really need it. The group was excellent. A few Irish, french, german, american and by far not the quietest, ME!!!!!!!! There was a good buzz on the boat, then you'd walk up to the front of the boat and looked up into the sky. It was like the sky was falling onto the boat!! There were SOOOOO many stars, I could not believe my eyes! You could actually see the milkyway!!!! I never want to forget that moment!! We tried to take pictures but figured it would have to be one of those moments where a "mental" picture would have to do!!
After a very early breakfast at 6.30am, we were dropped off on Whitehaven beach!! The name says it all!! The beach had the whitest, finest sand that I have ever seen in my whole life!!! I mean the sand was so fine it was actually like flour!! It felt insane inbetween your toes!! The sea was the clearest water I have ever seen, like thousand tiny crystals, sparkling in the ground!!!! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!
After Whitehaven we got the boat to a different area where we went snorkeling. Although I had done it a few days earlier, I was nervous again. But I did it and I was so glad I did!!!! The guy from the boat Harry, fed the fish as we got into the sea so they were all literally swimming around our faces!! And they were all sorts of sizes. Some tiny little ones, and some enormous ones. The big ones got close enough to touch them!! I didn't but others did!!
Later we were left on this tiny little island to sunbath and snorkel more. I obviously just worked on my tan!! It was awesome though, because our group were the only ones on this island, so it really was like the movie "The Beach!!" This was probably one of my most favourite places so far!! It was just so peaceful and glorious!! A perfect picture!!
We got back on the boat just in time for sunset, and what a magnificant sunset it was!! A beautiful spray of yellows, oranges and reds across what felt like the whole world. Watching the sun sink into the horizon was like watching a tv program. It didn't feel real as it was so spectacular!! The evening found us sitting on the deck, wrapped up warm and with a glass of Goon. We all were just sat looking up at the sky for hours. Staring at the stars, occasionally seeing shooting stars!!! What a feeling!! If only I could have had an hour with all you amazing people at home, on that boat, just to share the shear beauty of this place.......
The next morning we sailed back to Airlie beach. It was an early start again. So by the time it was 9am, it felt like we had been up for hours. And we still had a box of Goon between Carlier and I. The majority of us on the boat came to the conculsion that some where in the world it would be happy hour and therefore it was acceptable for us to share that moment!! This is when the "GOONIES" were born. And I found my goon buddy in Carlie!! So throughout the past three days, Carlie and I have constantly said the word "mine" but have been kind enough to hide for each other. Well on our last hour on Habibi, we both say the word "mine" at the same time and loud enough for you guys to hear it in England!!! So yes, down we go to do our ten pressups, but it was fine because we had goon!! Hehe
We sadly exited the Habibi at around midday and thought, it cant end here, so we all headed to Carlie's hostel pool. It was such an awesome afternoon. We were hanging out with our new friends, the goon kept coming and the music was turned up. This was one of those times I imagined before coming away, just hanging out by the pool with new friends, its was great. However the fact that I had to get an overnight bus that night was upsetting as all the others were staying and continuing to party through the night. Never mind, we all still managed to get dressed up and have a few drinks at the bar before it was time for me to leave. And I got a a lovley send off.
On the bus, that was the first time that I actually felt really sad to leave a place, and a little lonley, as it would have been nice to be sitting next to a friend and reminisce. Never mind, this is what its all about. So I close my eyes and try to sleep for the next 14 hours to Rainbow bay.
