Hello and greetings from Viet Nam....we left Cambodia on the 27th of April (we think not sure without checking passports!) and arrived in hot and humid Ho Chi Minh City. After 2 days of mooching around we both got sick and ended up spending a few days in a hotel room watching TV!!! All good now so have spent the past few days checking out the sights. We have been to the War Remnants Museum which included an amazing collection of photographs from the Vietnam war, very moving. We also visited the Palace which was pretty much untouched since the 70's and it's great to be able to see all the furniture and Presidents war rooms. We also headed out too the Cu Chi tunnels, a series of around 200km''s of underground tunnels used by the Viet Com during the war. Some of the tunnels have been widend for us big ol' westeners but they were originally 300mm by 700mm, very tiny and people were down there for days. Amazing to see how resourceful these rurual people were whilst they were protecting their country and way of life.
We also bumped into some people we knew why we were here so had one or two nights out and blew the budget on beer! All part of the 'around the world beer tasting quest', and yes the research programme does need additional funding if any of you would like to make donations! We have been to every market in town (Jay loves it!), eaten some (actually far too much) fantastic food, diced with death every time we step outside by dodging the 3.5 million mopeds on the roads and pavements and generally had a rather nice time in the big smoke.
We are about to hop on an overnight bus to Nga Trang, about 9/10 hours in a hamster cage, and should arrive around 5.30 am. Next chance we get we will pop some pictures on here and let you know what we have been up to! Bye for now x x x x
