Hola from sunny Lima!
What a week, we landed in Lima Airport on Monday night and have had a blast ever since. Lima is great, the town is alive with the hustle and bustle of the 8 million people that live here, most of them drive taxi´s or are on a bus at any one time so the streets are a little crowded! The continuous tooting, hooting and hollering from the taxi´s and the bus negotiators ( they hang out the door negtotiating the best price for the journey with the people on the street (about 20p for 30 minutes)) this is a total art and an experince for any passenger. In the middle of all this chaos there are some beatiful, well kept park and buildings there are a lot of large colonial building that previously belonged to the Barons that controlled the city before handing it back to the Preuvian people about 20 years ago. There are also a lot of run down and delapitated buildings sandwiched between the posh hotels anf mansions and a lot of povery as well as wealth. With the povery apparent in many area´s there is always a warm welcome and friendly spirt. We have spent 3 days in Lima and are ready to move on, (cant stand the noise any longer!)´ Tonight we are catching a bus a 10pm to take us to Huraz further north, the bus is nonstop and should arrive at 6 am on Saturday (were in economy!). We have been told the area is totally fantastic and has some of the highest peaks in the Americas some 6000M above sea level. From there we plan to move north to Iquitos which has no land access so is a 3-5 day trip by boat, Iquitos is the last city before our trip into the jungle! We shall update you when we find the next internet cafe. Jay and Emma x x x x x x
