Well I finally managed to get to a computer. Its been a hectic couple of days with no time for getting online...so this will be a LONG entry.
On the train on the way back from the Chateau de Versailles we ran into this nice couple from Canada who told about the Latin Quarter in Paris which we hadn't heard about. So we went to walk through it and it was awesome! It was like an area of streets lined with restaurants of all different ethnicities...Greek (with the smashing of the plates), Italian, American, Indian, you name it. It was cool but too expensive to eat at so we went to the Eiffel Tower instead and managed to see it when it was twinkling. It only does that on the hour from like 11-1am. It was so pretty. After that we pretty much ran to our train cause it was the last one and took it out to our hostel, about 20 minutes north of Paris. After we got off the train when we were walking to the hostel Wes and I saw this cab driver trying to pull the backpack off a girls shoulders. Apparently she and her boyfriend still owed the cab driver like 1 euro. Wes took off in a sprint and managed to rescue the couple (probably in their early 20's). It was so freaky but perfect timing cause Wes handled the whole thing.
The next day we got up at 5am (after having gone to bed at 2:30am) and went to Bayeux to see the Normandy D-Day beaches. We went on a 5 hour tour andsaw the D-Day Memorial, the German batteries, the American Cemetary, Omaha Beach and Pointe de Hoc (where they scaled the cliffs). It was so incredible but heartbreaking. Then we came back into Paris and had a picnic on the steps of the Louvre watching the Eiffel Tower twinkle. It was so cool.
The next day we went to the Louvre and saw the Mona Lisa...kind of disappointing if I do say so myself and then Hammurabi's Code (cooler for me to see). We only saw those two things cause we had to catch a train to Amsterdam. When we got to Amsterdam we checked into our hostel and went to Anne Frank's house. That was just unbelievable and so sad and real. We found this really nice restaurant (cheap too) and I had this amazing ravioli. After that we went to the Red Light District which is just so different and odd I don't even have the words to describe it. Its all so out there and no one cares.
But today we slept in until like 8:30 so that was nice (even though we got in at 2) and rented bikes. We spent the whole day riding everywhere. We went to the Heineken Brewery which was awesome. It was such an interactive museum with videos and computer stuff. Then we rode throughout Vondelpark which was gorgeous and stopped by the Van Gogh museum. You are going to hate me Mom but we didn't go in cause it was 10 euros and they didn't even take credit cards. I'm sorry for not seeing it but the Louvre is pretty close right? (And when we were walking throughout that, I saw a painting with faces in familiar structures and I was sure it was Botticelli and it was! Its rubbing off on me...) Now we are killing time till the restaurant at the hostel starts serving food.
Now I will talk about Wes for all you who are worried about the situation (especially about me falling for a Marine). Here is the good part, he even said so himself, that hewill be playing the big brother role with me and make sure none of the guys are bad or anything. He already feels like the brother I never had and its so cool cause we get along so well.
So, I will try to get online relatively soon again. I'm leaving for Berlin tomorrow afternoon so thats where I'll be..
