The travels continue with more National Parks. We don´t seem to be spending very long in anyone place. We´ve now been to the Arches, Capitol Reef, CanyonLands and enjoyed the impressive red rock Colorado plateau. After experiences in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas we have also learned to avoid the cities. The crazy grid system means traffic has to stop on traffic lights on every single block. The US of course has far too many cars and a huge environmental issues with them all being too big and drinking the juice. Fair to say, we were always relieved to get out of town.
The National Parks give a little background of the Native Peoples or First Nations as they are sometimes called. We have sometimes been surprised, as American white history is so short, that the Native history is not given more profile. Some Parks do it very well, others like to sweep that part of the History away. In the picture are rock formations with a fair geological explanation. The Natives to the area of Bryce Canyon called them Hoodoos, with a lovely explanation of their own. They are legend people who were bad and were turned to stone by Coyote. Gradually the Legend People are turned to dust. We have also caome across the Paiutes and a group called the Fremonts, but they only have this name after the white explorer who ´discovered´them.
We have a big decision to make now. Should we go north, or south for the rest of our time in the US? There is already snow on the hills around the city, but we still feel to have plenty of time before we have to be back in San Francisco ready for the next leg.
Travelling, full of these great decisions.
