Mon Long drive to El Calafate. Short of finding a helicopter there is not much option. Majestic scenery with the occasional isolated tiny houses. One wonders how people cope in such places. Sat. 26th Jan Arrived in Santiago yesterday. Met up with a couple from Oz, Lynda and Max. They invited me to spend the day with Juan, a Chilean friend of theirs who works with Max in Oz. Juan was home in Chile on holiday and offered to show them around the city. He turned up with his nephew Miguel and proceeded to drive us fifty kilometers from the city around all the villages. Have now arrived in Pucon, on Lake Villarica in South Chile. Twelve hour journey today but worth the effort. Super accommodation. Lounge, bedroom, kitchenette and en-suite. Going walking tomorrow, fox line the day after and also white water rafting. At least that is the plan. Watch this space!

Arrived safely in Santiago after a four hour flight delay in Auckland - never mind, you win some and lose some. Had a nice chat (?) with the taxi driver on the way from the airport. With his pidgin English and my sparrow Spanish we cobbled a few sentences together. At least I understood him, whether he understood me is doubtful.
