Our stay in El Salvador was short but sweet. We decided that we would stop in on one of the small beach towns for a night as we made our way towards Nicaragua. The tiny town, El Tunco, really seems just to exist for foreigners looking to take advantage of the great surf. Not being surfers, we knew we wouldn't find a lot there to keep us busy even if it was a pretty place. We took a short "chicken" bus ride to the nearby town of La Libertad, which had a much clearer local flavour. It seems like the locals of La Libertad aren't often visited by travellers as we were stared at and a source of amusement more than we had been anywhere in Central America so far. The local bus ride back from La Libertad to El Tunco was absolutely jam packed, which turned out to be a bit of fun as we played the role of sardines trapped in a can.
El Salvador was also the first place in Central America we experienced true tropical humidity, something we will have to get used to as we continue on in the region.
