Copacabana is right on the shore of the well-known lake, Lake Titicaca, and that was where we entered Bolivia after a long overnight bus ride from Cusco. There wasn't so much to do in Copacabana itself, except walk up to the town view point at sunset, which is exactly what we did. The highlight of the area for us, and most visitors, was a day trip to the nearby island, Isla del Sol. The island turned out to be a step back in time, a place where locals live by farming the land in quaint looking settlements surrounded by a pretty coastline. There were no cars on the island, children walked around with their pet lamas and the Incan ruins were well preserved. It was just a lovely place to walk around and see how some of the people in such a poor nation manage to live a simple lifestyle that would still be the envy of many people from all of the wealthier nations that visit them.
