Townsville: Saturday 29th January - Sunday 30th January

Not really much to write about Townsville, most people get straight on a ferry out to Magnetic Island, but with Cyclone Anthony on the way we decided it was best to avoid the sea and just stay in Townsville for a night before heading to Cairns the next day. After being dropped off at the first hostel, which looked like someone had installed some bunk beds in a multi-story carpark, we actually tried to leave that same night but found that the last bus had left so settled on a slightly less s*** place on the other side of the river.

Townsville actually has a really nice esplanade by the beach called The Strand with decent bars and restaurants and people cooking on BBQ's as the sun sets. So to cure us of our Townsville blues we ordered a beer in a beachside bar and then went and ate far too much McDonalds!
