April 15 - 17
After visiting the Weta cave we set off on a long drive (in NZ terms) for Napier. The first part of the drive was up through windy mountainous roads with sheer drops down into the valley below - always interesting when part of the road has fallen away.
We arrived in Napier after dark so had a quick drive through the town centre and then headed out to the Holiday Park to make dinner and chill out for the evening.
The following day we awoke to torrential rain but had to grin and bear it like true Brits as this was our only chance to see Napier. We initially set out in the hope that I could finally get my haircut, but was disappointed to find that the hairdressers we were going to did not open at weekends. Guess Sean will just have to put up with my malting for a bit longer! There really isn't too much else to say about Napier in all honesty. The town itself was destroyed by an earthquake back in 1931 and rebuilt using the art deco style which is still in place today. Some of this is nice to look at, but a lot of it has become run down and in some ways is similar to British seaside resorts. They even have a pebble beach! That evening we treated ourselves to some awesome fish and chips for the grand total of about £2.25 each!
