So, I´m still on this island and I really love it. I tried to leave once but didn´t make it far. I needed to go to the mainland to get cash since the one and only ATM on the island doesn´t like my card. Rather than waste a whole day making bus and ferry connections, I decided to take ¨vacation¨ to the coast and return the following week or so to pay my bill here. However, on the ferry I ran into the owner of Little Morgan´s, a resort and fun place to drink just up the road from Zopilote. His help was leaving the next day so he asked if I wanted to come work in exchange for no expenses. I said ¨why not¨ and returned directly. It is by far the easiest job I have ever had.
It´s only been open about a year and a half and is a fairly small place, so we usually have between 0 and 15 guests. Morgan lives up to every stereotype you have about the Irish and gets lots of business by referral. He also has many local friends who come down to drink and play pool at night. We always have a good time.
There are a couple of local girls who do the cooking and cleaning during the day. Alba is only 16 and Celia 23, but they both make some pretty amazing food. They were a bit shy at first, but now starting to warm up and like to make fun of my Spanish speaking skills. The first thing I did was empty my bag simply because I could and I have a real room with a door and a bed and everything.
The other night, there was a full moon party on the beach. A local guy waited for me to close the bar since we were both going to the party. AND HE LET ME RIDE HIS HORSE! What a great form of transportation. I really want one. I think I might trade in the Subaru. It would probably be more reliable, actually. We just parked it at the hitching post and went down to join the festivities.
I climbed the volcano last week. It was really cool. Very steep, incredibly muddy, a bit hot but a really fun hike.
