We are now in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The word of the holiday so far...humongous! Don't know how to spell it,don't know if it's a real word (unless you are a teenage mutant ninja turtle) but it's the word of the holiday so far. Petronas towers, humongous! Buddha at the batu caves, humongous, queue at passport control.....humongous! (ian has just googled it and apparently humongous became a real word in 1960's, I honestly thought it was a made up word) Phrase of the holiday so far....'It's all part of the adventure!', this is a great phrase when things don't go quite the way you planned and anyway, well it IS all part of the adventure. Ok, so.....please don't judge, but as we could get a room in The Mandarin Oriental, yes, The Mandarin Oriental for the same price as our crappy, cramped room in Paris, we decided we would treat ourselves. As if a month away isn't treat enough! So a quick half hour train journey into Kuala Lumpur from the airport and we are in complete luxury, right next to the Petronas Towers. They did look at us a bit strange looking like tramps after 13 hours on a plane with no sleep and giant rucksacks on our backs! The next day, the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. (isnt that where Borat was from , ha ha!) came to stay at The Mandarin Oriental too, but something tells me he won't have been wearing a rucksack, but hey, as Toni calls it we are 'flashpacking'! We arrived first thing in the morning and even though we hadn't been able to sleep on the flight, we went straight out to sightsee.....obviously! A half hour trainride to the Batu cave was the first stop. This looks amazing from the outside and the cave is amazing but REALLY stinky of rotting fruit and looks a bit manky inside, but.....it's all part of the adventure and it was free! Back to central Kuala Lumpur we booked our tickets for the following day to go up to floor 86 of the Petronas towers and then headed out for the Food Tour we had booked online. This was absolutely fantastic, we went round several places, mainly street markets and we loved it. We would never have found these places or had a clue what to order and our guide Charlie was filling us in on life in Kuala Lumpur and we loved hearing about how all the different cultures and religions get on together so well, apparently although he had a whinge about the muslims, who get treated better and get better interest rates on loans etc. I have no idea if this is true but overall Charlie reckons everyone gets on. After the tour we went up to the Sky Bar at The Traders Hotel for cocktails and the most amazing view of The Petronas towers. Tomorrow is the trip UP the towers and I'm fine with heights up to a point, but this building is HIGH! It was the highest building in the world until about 2003 when tapei tower beat it and now tallest is in Dubai. Anyway, still bloody HIGH, then having a chill day and fly to Phuket on Thursday morning. Will update then! Byeeeeee for now xxx
