J & J's Travels
Me again,
From Hoi An we took another 12hr bus journey down to a bigger city called Nha Trang. To say the least it was a very uncomfortable journey as the seats and spacing are ergonomically designed for petite Vietnamese men and women not 6ft tall Scottish men. However our lack of sleep allowed us to witness some wonderful scenery, we especially enjoyed seeing the lights from the fishing boats in the black of the night out trying to catch their living. We arrived in Nha Trang to a lovely peaceful sight of elderly men and women practising Tai Chi on the beach as the sun rose. I wish we had their dedication. Some even went for an early morning swim.
Nha Trang I hate to say was like any other big city beside the beach, very busy with tuk tuk drivers everywhere. We managed to meet 2 lovely motorbike drivers called "Son" and "Mr Hiep" who sensed our weariness and instictively whisked us off to the local hot springs. James and I both agreed that it was one of the most relaxing days we have ever had. I can only describe it as a inexpensive Vietnamese Spa where all the locals congregate.
We were first whisked off up some stone stairs to a little iron tub which was filled with hot mud. We both got in and sat and surveyed the lovely view below of the hotsprings and swimmingpool. After relaxing in the mud bath we got out and baked ourselves in the sun for a bit, apparently this is what helps all the minerals soak into the skin. According to the Vietnamese the mud can help with joint pain and skin infections. (J had been suffering from quite a few viscious mosie bites but after his session in the mud they have all cleared up)
We then proceeded to wash ourselves in jet propelled hotsprings water which was great fun. After about 20 minutes of twisting James arm we went for a Vietnamese massage. Not having one in Thailand we did not know quite what to expect and boy it was suprising. It was a full body massage which lasted for a full hour and they used their hands, elbows, feet, toes and even their thighs. At one point I thought I was going to disappear into the bed as the Vietnamese women (not one of the skinniest) proceeded to walk up and down my back. Poor James did not know what was going on.
After our day of relaxing our 2 motorbike drivers took us to taste some of the local cuisine and drink. It is amazing how much people have in common from all over the world as their was an abundance of good conversation and laughter.
