Its our first night in Praue and I'm updating already cos I'm in the mood. It'll make things easier too. Maybe try and do one each night. Who knows!
The train took 4 and a half hours but there were no changes. Sat in our seats in a cabin. An American from Boston decided to come and join us. We met him on the platform. His tickets were for 1st class but I guess we're just an awesome pair of people. Was a pleasant journey. Americans get a lot of bad press, but we've met heaps. They've all been pretty cool.
We parted ways at the station in Prague and bought ourselves a map. The money is crazy over here. 1 Euro is 24 Czech Koruna. And they don't have pennies or anything. Its just 2 Koruna coins up to 5000 on a note!
After leaving the station we stopped at the first street to check out the map and almost immediately an old man walks right up to us. 'Here we go' we both thought. 'The beggers are starting already'. But he just wanted to help us find our way. It was awesome. We would have found our way anyway but it was such a friendly thing to do. A great welcome to Prague. Kind of felt guilty for hanging on to my wallet the whole time, but you gotta be careful. The next one may not be so innocent. Put a big grin on our faces anyway.
Found the hostel in no time at all. Traffic's a bit crazier here though. Nearly got myself run over. Of course, with my backpack I think the car might have come out worse!
The hostel's cool. Nice room. Not too busy right now. Kitchen is perfect. Friendly staff. Free breakfast. Exactly what we need. I should take more pictures of the places we're staying. I'll do that from now on.
It was about tea time and we were desperately hungry. Took a walk and found a cash machine just as the heavens opened. We got to a restaurant soaking wet.
I'm shocked by how much stuff is in English here. The menus on the restaurant wall were all English. You see it written wherever you go. More so than any other city we've been to. So we checked out the menu. Also very different. Great sounding food. I got something different and Katie even found a veggie option she'd never seen before. Pancakes with spinach and garlic and cheese. Got a beer each too. By the end I estimated the bill at 500Ck (about 20 Euro). I was very wrong. It was about 350. That's 15 Euro for two meals and two beers! This place is crazy cheap!
Looking forward to a few more days of this. Will make up for us spending lots in Vienna at least!
We finished the night playing Game of Life on the laptop and now we're sleeping out of sight of each other again. I'm on the top bunk. Feels very odd sometimes. But that's hostels for you.
Anyway. Its late. Good night x
