So Salzburg! It hasn't disappointed. As I said earlier, its beautiful here. And it started snowing last night too which, in my opinion at least, has just improved the place.
Katie was desperate to watch Sound of Music again to get the vibe going so we found it online last night. Gotta say I preffered old Julie as Mary Poppins but whatever. Was cool to see the place on film. We've seen some of the scenes first-hand ourselves now. The steps that the kids hopped up when they were learning to sing. Katie was a little dissapointed though I think. She wasn't expecting quite so many people crowded around them taking pictures. It kinda put her off even going up them. We saw fountains and castles though.
Talking about castles...Salzburg's fortress rocks. Its very fancy looking, but incredibly practical. A real castle and we got a full audio tour through the building and up the towers. Kate got a bit freaked going out the top of the tower but she did great! :D So we were both very pleased to see that. We had a quick bite to eat in the restaurant afterwards. I was chuffed with my ice-cream, but Katie was very happy with her first apple strudel of the holiday. Apart from the castle we also saw plenty of the other sites here. Churches, a pretty funky graveyard and just plenty more architecture. Finished off the night with a lovely Italian meal. Good price too.
That was all yesterday though. Today we woke up to a major snowfall. Awesome! Kate's a bit pissed about the cold. She hasn't really packed for it. Although she apparently hasn't packed for summer though, so I'm not too sure what her bag's been filled with...
Its lovely her ein the snow anyway. Really feels like we're in the Alps. Our main objective for the day was to see the marionette show. Salburg is apparently famous for the marionettes and it looked very different...it was very different. A Wagner opera. The famous one with 'Flight of the Valkyries'. It was great to see a professional puppet show in action, but the production itself was very contemporary. Not what we expected at all. A little disappointing to be honest. We expected a language barrier, but I hoped it would be more of an opera than what appeared to be a 'youth theatre' style show. But asi said, the puppet work was impressive. Pleased we actually did see it.
Now we're in bed, ready for another short journey. Bad Gastein, right in the mountains. Maybe do something sporty. May be expensive, but that's what the money's for! :D
Chow for now!
