Greetings from Gili Trawagan!
We finished off in UBUD with the cycle tour. was REALLY cool- we didnt cook eggs by the crater but did get up to heights for breakfast for an amazing view of the volcano and its lake. The guide taught us all about the local plants and what to look out for. We smoked some of their fresh tobacco and drank some of the most expensive coffee in the world - you may know if youve seen the film bucket list- coffee beans which have been roasted and eaten by this little ferret looking thing and pooed out and drunk.. who the hell come out with that idea!
We cycled through local villages and actually went into someones house where they were making straw mats out of bamboo. I helped the paddy farmers bash some rice in the field and we high fived loads of little kids as we cycled down the hill. We met an awesome english family who lived in shanghai and had a good laugh with them, despite one of the girls falling off her bike! after lunch and copious amounts of sweat we ended up playing by monkeys in the santury.
Since then we've taken ourselves off to a sweet island 12 hours away near Lombok- no cars or motorbikes, powered only by generaters and unfortunately no atms! Its great here, there's a main strip filled with great restaurants and fab bars - we've become regulars at both the irish bar -tir na nog and the cinema bar. Met some great people - two tunbridge dwellers called Beth and Cat, and a group of Swedish lads!
The tide is really strong and is hard to swim here. I attempted snorkling but had to paddle 100mph to catch up to the fish, then got caught up in a swarm of mini jellys, my crap snorkle was leaking and generally flipped out 'arrrghllll' and got out of the sea to sit by the pool instead!
Jess has knocked her toe so now it has a skin hat on it. quite funny. But i keep stepping on it accidently. means she hasnt dived here.
Well looking forward to cheap buys back in Kuta and on Saturday we're flying to Singapore. Guide book looks good. Lots of shopping, open gardens, zoo's etc. and sadly top of my list is routing round an old cemetry finding some shamiers of old, and taking a picture for my dad's purpose by mount faber and neil street!
speak to you then xx
